What were they fighting for?
According to a CNN/MONEY story I read today, ABC affiliates in 8 states (Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia) decided to not air the Veteran's Day broadcast of "Saving Private Ryan".
These local stations are afraid that the FCC will come down on them for airing a movie feature such violence and foul language. According to the Story:
"But at least one watchgroup group that has urged the FCC to levy harsher fines for questionable programming said the broadcast should go ahead.
The group, the Parents Television Council, said in a statement on its Web site that "context is everything." "
To which I say to the Parents Television Council: "Eat Shit and Die!" Who gave you the moral authority to decide what is appropriate!!!
Don't get me wrong, I thing Ryan is a great movie. Amazing opening sequence. Gut-wrenching. But, let me decide what is appropriate and what is not. If I, or god forbid, someday, my children want to watch, give us the respect to be able to decide for ourselves what is appropriate and what is not. If you don't like what your kids are watching, turn the damn TV off and read them a book. Don't take the decision away from the rest of us.
That's enough soap-boxing for now. Don't worry, I'll be back to my existensial pain next post...
